A single mother, a policewoman with a serious panic disorder, and the biggest conspiracy of contemporary Hungary. She doesn’t stand a chance. Who would believe in a policewoman who suffers from such a serious panic disorder that she is afraid to go near any crime scene and so has been on permanent office duty for more than a decade? Who would believe a single mother who is unfit to pay her mortgage and also to raise her rebellious teenage daughter? Indeed, no one believes that this troubled woman has discovered a serial murder case. A moving personal drama and a gripping investigation serve as a pretext to show many layers of contemporary Hungary, where the historical and recent past still haunts people, resulting in concealed and horrendous crimes. It is a place where nothing and no one seems honest and true, except an emotionally unstable policewoman and her daughter who only wants to know who her father truly was. Reminiscent of Scandinavian crime films, this is an atmospheric picture about true heroes.

Ruben Brandt, a famous psychotherapist, suffers terrible nightmares. They are the result of subliminal messaging he received as a child. To prevent them, he is forced to steal 13 masterpieces of painting from world-renowned museums and private collections. Accompanied by his four patients, he strikes with great success: the Louvre, Tate, Uffizi, Hermitage, MoMA… “The Collector” quickly becomes the most wanted criminal in the world. The reward for his capture keeps rising, approaching a hundred million dollars. A cartel of insurance companies entrusts Mike Kowalski, a private detective, with solving the case. An animated crime story referencing the best traditions of the genre. A tribute to the 20th century movie world: from Griffith and Eisenstein to Wenders and Tarantino.
