The aim of festival representation of the National Film Institute is to promote Hungarian films and their creators at the most prestigious international film events.
One of the most important tasks of the International and Sales Department of the National Film Institute is to advocate Hungarian feature films as well as shorts, documentaries, and animations in its portfolio abroad, and their film festival representation.
Its main goal is to make sure that Hungarian films and their creators are visible at the most significant festivals worldwide (e.g., Berlin, Cannes, Locarno, Karlovy Vary, Venice, Toronto, and Sundance), and offer comprehensive information about them to the international professional community and audiences.
The National Film Institute has its own stand and pavilion at the Berlinale and at the Cannes Film Festival where all information can be found on new Hungarian productions and projects, and where its relationship with the players of the national and international professional community can be fostered.
The department has a close relationship with several hundred film festivals and numerous professional organizations. Besides the festival submission and festival representation of films, it participates creatively in organizing film weeks, retrospective screenings, thematic cultural programs, professional projects, conferences, and meetings.
