The 41st Fantasporto International Film Festival held in Portugal ended with record Hungarian succes last weekend.

Post Mortem, supported by the National Film Institute, was launched at festivals last October, including the most prestigious international showcase of horror films in Sitges and the Warsaw IFF. The period movie was awarded RAI4 Television Special Prize and the Méliès Jury’s Special Mentoin at Trieste Sci-Fi Festival.

Post Mortem is set in the period after the First World War, during the time of the Spanish Flu, in a village where death rate is extremely high. Tomás (Viktor Klem), a post-mortem photographer arrives in the village to take pictures of the dead, surrounded by their families. Anna, a little girl lives in this ghost-haunted place and asks Tomás to help her fight the restless spirits.

Following its world premiere at Venice Days, Lili Horvát’s PREPARATIONS TO BE TOGETHER FOR AN UNKNOWN PERIOD OF TIME was premiered in North America as one of the few titles selected at 2020 special edition of the Toronto IFF. The film also won the Jury Award for Best Narrative Feature at the Philadelphia IFF and the FIPRESCI Award at the Warsaw IFF with Horvát winning the Gold Hugo in the New Directors Competition at the Chicago IFF in 2020. Last time it won the George Gund III Memorial Central and Eastern European Competition at Cleveland IFF.

The movie tells the story of Márta, a 40-year-old neurosurgeon who leaves behind her brilliant career in the United States to return to Budapest and start a new life with the man she loves. When they meet, however, the man claims that he has never seen her before.
