Csaba Káel elected by the International Television Academy

Csaba Káel government commissioner for the development of the Hungarian motion picture industry has been elected member of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

Founded in 1969, the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is a non-profit, membership organization, based in New York City, comprised of leading entertainment figures across all sectors of the television industry, from over sixty countries. The Academy is a unique, independent organization comprised of the world’s television and media leaders who come together to exchange ideas, discuss common issues and promote new strategies for the future development of quality global television programming. The Academy was chartered with a mission to recognize excellence in television programming produced outside of the United States, and it presents the International Emmy® Award to programs in twenty categories. Csaba Káel, internationally renowned film and opera director, is one of the most influential leaders in the Hungarian cultural scene. In 2005-2011, he was artistic advisor of Müpa Budapest, one of the largest performing arts centers in Europe and has been serving as its CEO since 2011. In 2013, he was appointed chairman of the Executive Board of the Budapest Spring Festival and the CAFe Budapest Contemporary Arts Festival. In 2019, he was appointed government commissioner for the development of the Hungarian motion picture industry.

Káel holds a degree in film and television directing as well as structural and architectural engineering. He has extensive experience in the film and media industries, has directed over 600 promotion films for commercial clients and also image films for Hungary, presented at large international exhibition and world expositions as well as numerous music videos, television dramas and documentary films. As an opera stage director, he has directed more than 25 operas. Most recently Káel’s repertoire has been extended with productions at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, New York and the Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow. Csaba Káel has been playing an important role in building the worldwide reputation of Budapest as one of Europe’s vital cultural destinations.  

Csaba Káel has been a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, and his work has been recognized by several Hungarian and international awards. Among others he received the Commander's Cross of the Order of Merit of Hungary, the highest French order of merit, the Legion of Honour and Hungary’s most prestigious state award, the Kossuth Prize.
