Bronze Student Academy Award to István Kovács

A Siege by István Kovács won the Bronze Student Acadamy Awards in the Narrative section. The director excepeted the prize in person at the award ceremony, which was held on Thursday, October 11 at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.

This year, the Student Academy Awards competition received a total of 1,582 entries from 278 domestic and 122 international colleges and universities, which were voted upon by a record number of Academy members. István Kovács competed in the Narrative section.

'A Siege' sets in 1994 at Sarajevo, after the Bosnian War. The main charachter is a lonley, bosnian woman, whose has only one aim: find water. She would like to wash her hair, before her awaited date… 'A Siege' is the diploma film by István Kovács, a graduate of the University of Theatre and Film Arts in Budapest. 

'A Siege' was premiered in Hungary at the Friss Hús festival, the international premiere was in competition at the Sarajevo Film Festival. The short film was supported by Hungarian National Film Fund.

All Student Academy Award-winning films are eligible to compete for 2018 Oscars. Past winners have gone on to receive 59 Oscar nominations and have won or shared 11 awards.
