Recognized by FIAPF - International Federation of Film Producers Associations as a "non-specialized festival with a feature film competition" - Category A.
The first Indian International Film Festival was held in Bombay as early as 1952. Since 1983, with the participation of 22 Third World Countries, the Indian festival has become a major forum for Third World cinema. The event takes place annually for 11 days. The 150 to 200 films in IFFI present a cross-section of internationally and nationally acclaimed productions.
 
Organized by the Directorate of Film Festivals, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting in collaboration with the Government of Goa, and the Indian Film Industry.
Formerly held in New Delhi.
